Outside the front entrance of the Minster is a statue of Emperor Constantine who was one of the most influential personages in ancient history by adopting Christianity as the religion of the vast Roman Empire.

The history of York Minster stretches back almost 2,000 years to the birth of modern day Christianity Roman York. Taking around 250 years to be built, the minster would have played an important role in national affairs. The cathedral itself is proof of cultural influence from Roman culture and likely hints of others.

All areas of York Minster are accessible with the exception of the central tower, Zouche Chapel and High Altar. Internally, the Minster is accessible via ramps and lifts where necessary
