The first Royal Palace was built under Charles I after he and his court moved to Visegrád in 1316, and was extended a hundred years later with many Italian flourishes. It soon after gained a reputation as one of the finest palaces in all of Europe. This legendary palace was only “rediscovered” in the 1930s – the palace impresses with its dimensions and incredible views over the Danube and the surrounding area.
Cross-cultural dimensions
The exploring of the palace in itself contains many experiences for those who are interested in history, but beside the permanent exhibitions and projections, taking a tour-guide, you can even easily spend a full half-day between the walls of the nearly 700-year-old complex.
