The Tokaj Wine Region is home to some of Hungary’s most beloved varieties of wine. The region is spread over a romantic landscape of cellar labyrinths, wines and slopes, nestled at the foothills of the Zemplén Mountains. Its winemaking history dates back over a thousand years. Historical records show that vineyards had been established in Tokaj as early as the 12th century, but there is evidence for the earlier introduction of wine production to the region. Tokaj has been declared a World Heritage Site in 2002 under the name Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape.
