History and teachings
The Szeged Open-Air Festival is Hungary’s largest outdoor theatre and one of the most important summer theatre festivals in Central Europe. It offers a unique diversity of genres among European theatre festivals, with a programme that includes opera, musicals, prose and symphonic music. Its mission is to promote folk theatre, local culture and rural tourism.

Cross-cultural dimensions
The festival was designed based on the the Venice Open Air Theatre. Artists from abroad are invited to the festival already from the 70’s.

Useful information:
Recommended for anybody. Unique in some extent (open-air theatre). Preparation is not required. There are no discounts for students and youth – prices depend on the sections.

Location is in the centre of Szeged, city in the South-East of Hungary, 2.5 hour train journey from Budapest. No information about the accessibility for disabled. Most of the performances are in Hungarian but operas and concerts can be enjoyed by non-Hungarian speakers. High safety standards are applied.
