History and teachings
The parque minero de Riotinto was declared Asset of Cultural Interest in 2005, as it’s unique and even compared to Mars, due to its big presence of minerals (it’s even being studied by the NASA). Visitors can learn from this mining activity during history, as well as about minerals in general.

Cross-cultural dimensions
Its unique in the world, although its history is related to the UK, as the company that adquired the rights to extract minerals in the past was english. It’s, therefore, a joint heritage, that relates the two countries and the European culture. Besides, it is one of the finalist of the EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) programme of the European Commission as a sustainable turism proposal.
