History and teachings
The archeology of the time spread throughout Europe and the recent establishment of the modern Greek state created the conditions for the protection of the national cultural heritage. Thus, from the beginning, the history of the Museum was directly connected with the history of the modern Greek state, the social conditions and the cultural directions of each era.

Cross-cultural dimensions
As a whole, the Numismatic National Collection is one of the richest in the world, along with the collections of the British Museum in London, the National Library in Paris, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Bode Museum in Berlin and the American Mint in New York.
