History and teachings
EMST acquires, safeguards and preserves, documents, researches and exhibits works of contemporary Greek and international art. The constant aim of the museum is to promote the educational level concerning arts and rpublic ato raise public awareness regarding contemporary culture, in combination with the development of scientific research and specialization in museology, history and theory of contemporary art. One of its founding goals is to promote innovative and experimental artistic movements and the production of audiovisual works via new media.

Cross-cultural dimensions
By the end of the renaissance when the academic and fundamental character of the art was determined, artists who presented innovative and ground-breaking material were the focal point for the creation of a movement. This is what we call today contemporary art. Artists and movements influenced each other all over the countries. As a result, Museum of Contemporary Art collects and mainly exhibits artworks of Greek artists that have influenced by the international trends.

A lot of exhibits have a political character and give to the visitors the opportunity to combine the artistic elements with the historical ones. The international character of the museum expands the intercultural dialogue and requires respect for diversity, tolerance and openness.
