Las médulas were one of the most important open-pit gold mines of the Roman Empire. Through this experience not only can the visitor learn about history, flora and fauna; but also about the consequences of human destructive activity, and why is it important to preserve the environment in order to prevent this for happening again

Las Médulas are located in El Bierzo, in León. Accessible by car or bus. There are specialized staff on the ‘Aula Arqueológica’ and the ‘centro de Recepción de Visitantes’, in which a guided tour can be booked. There are some routes adapted to disabled, and main language is Spanish.
